Adams Statement on Congressional Baseball Practice Shooting

June 14, 2017

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the statement after a gunman opened fire on a practice for the Congressional Baseball game.

"Today's shooting is a tragic reminder of the rising animosity and tensions in our country", said Congresswoman Adams.

"Each year we come together for a bipartisan baseball game to benefit local charities and spread goodwill. This shooting is a wakeup call to all us: we must continue this bipartisan spirit off of the field and into the halls of Congress to heal our partisan divide.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the wounded, Whip Scalise, staff, and the Capitol Police, whose heroism undoubtedly saved countless lives, and also with the American people as we stand united to move our nation forward."
