Adams Statement on Special Prosecutor to Investigate Trump-Russia Connection

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after former FBI Director Robert Mueller was appointed as special prosecutor.

"Today, I signed a discharge position to demand a vote on the creation of an independent commission, outside of the jurisdiction of Trump's Department of Justice, to investigate the administration's ties to Russia, "said Congresswoman Adams. "Director Mueller's appointment as special prosecutor is a first step but it cannot be the last. Director Mueller will still be a part of the chain of command of officials in the Justice Department who were appointed by President Trump and played a role in the firing of Director Comey. His appointment cannot take the place of an independent commission free of ties to the administration. The American people demand the truth and it is Congress' responsibility to ensure they receive it."
