Congresswoman Adams Announces Winners of the NC 12th District Congressional Art Competition
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a former art professor at Bennett College and member of the Congressional Arts Caucus, today announced the winners of the 2017 Congressional art competition. Congresswoman Adams held an exhibit and competition at the Harvey Gantt Center on Sunday, May 21st. During the reception, 25 pieces of artwork submitted by high school students in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District were displayed and judged by three local artists: Leonor Demori, Neisler, Matt Hooker and Justin Surgeon.
"As an artist and former art professor, I share these students' passion for expression through art," saidCongresswoman Adams. "The student artists in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District are tremendously talented and I'm proud of the 25 young people who submitted their artwork for the competition. I look forward to hosting this year's winner, John Dudley, in D.C. and seeing his artwork, entitled "Be Free", exhibited in the U.S. Capitol."
The first place winner won tickets to D.C. for the nationwide Congressional art competition reception. Their art, along with other high school students across the country, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The second and third place entries will be on display for one year in Congresswoman Adams' D.C. office and the two entries that received honorable mentions will be displayed in her district office.
The U.S. House of Representatives hosts a Congressional art competition each year as an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the country. Each Representative holds a competition in their District and selects winning entries.
