Congresswoman Adams: “McCrory Must Repeal Hb2”

April 5, 2016

Charlotte, NC - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement after PayPal announced they will not build a global operation center in Charlotte:

“Since HB2 was abruptly signed into law, hundreds of businesses have called for it to be repealed; and states and cities across the country banned employee travel to North Carolina. Now, Charlotte who stands united against this law - is the very city being punished because of Governor McCrory’s actions. A job-creating, economy-boosting new venture is now crushed because of discriminatory ideals - putting 400 North Carolinians who would have been employed in skilled jobs, at a loss.

“With Charlotte ranking last for upward mobility and Mecklenburg County having the highest number of SNAP recipients in the state, we can’t afford to have jobs taken away from our communities. I urge Governor McCrory to put our local economy first, put jobs first, and repeal this awful law. I will continue to stand with the LGBT community in the continued fight for equality in our state.”
