Congresswoman Adams Responds to President Trump’s First Address to a Joint Session of Congress
Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after President Trump delivered his first address to a Joint Session of Congress.
“Last night, President Trump was on script. He delivered prepared remarks that are inconsistent with the reality of the first 40 days of his presidency,” said Congresswoman Adams. “Since taking office, President Trump talked about protecting our environment yet he proposed cutting billons from the EPA; he described education as our ‘great civil rights battle’ but he wants to privatize our schools; and he espoused equality but appointed a bigot as White House Chief Strategist.
“This evening’s speech offered nothing new. There was no mention of a replacement plan for the healthcare he would like to revoke from 20 million people or details about how he’ll provide greater economic opportunities for all Americans.
“If President Trump is serious about investing in America, I expect his budget proposal to Congress to reflect it. Americans want economic security, quality public education, affordable healthcare, clean air, and comprehensive immigration reform. It’s not enough just to ‘talk the talk’, President Trump must ‘walk the walk’ to be the leader that our nation demands.”
