Congresswoman Adams Votes For Bipartisan Budget Agreement

October 29, 2015

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) voted with 265 other Democratic and Republican Members of Congress to pass H.R. 1314, a bipartisan budget agreement that secures equal funding increases in defense and domestic initiatives over the next two years. The bipartisan budget agreement passed yesterday enables crucial investments in America's future after years of sequester cuts.

"I'm proud to see a budget produced that we can all agree on. This budget agreement benefits both our national defense forces and critical domestic programs," said Congresswoman Adams. "Although it is not perfect, it is a major step in the right direction – putting an end to sequester cuts and providing more economic certainty for hard-working Americans. I'm pleased we were finally able to pass a budget that strengthens the economy, creates jobs, protects seniors and people with disabilities, averts a debt crisis and invests in our families."

The bipartisan budget agreement provides greater economic certainty to businesses and families, and it is estimated that it will create an additional 340,000 jobs in 2016 alone. The legislation prevents a major increase in Medicare Part B premiums and deductibles for millions of seniors in 2016; and stops a 20 percent cut in disability benefits in 2016, while extending Social Security Disability Insurance.
