A Safer12th: The Kick Start to Community Action

July 22, 2016

Charlotte, NC — Yesterday, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) hosted a Safer12th community forum to address gun violence and community policing in Winston-Salem, NC. With over one-hundred attendees and participation from elected officials at the state and local levels, Congresswoman Adams thought the Safer12th event was a huge success.

“Last night’s display of community and leadership is a testament to the strength of our district, the City of Winston-Salem and our nation, said Congresswoman Adams. We must continue to push for this collaboration among civic and community leaders across the country so that citizens everywhere are empowered to take a stance against gun violence and also feel a sense of comfort knowing that police officers are here to serve and protect. I think the Safer12th forums are a kick start to community action across the 12th Congressional District.”

“I thought that the Safer12th event was very productive. Anytime that you can bring elected officials together from local and national levels, and community members, to talk about the issues that the community faces, and to talk about the solutions— it’s a positive step in the right direction, said Chief Barry D. Rountree.

“I am grateful to Rep. Adams for her leadership in starting this discussion. It is one of many conversations that need to happen not only in Winston-Salem, but also across North Carolina and across the county. As Rep. Adams said, ‘we need to move from conversations to solutions and actions,’” said Councilman Derwin Montgomery.
