Adams Challenges the Supreme Court’s Janus v. AFSCME Decision
Washington, D.C – Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled against the collection of union fees for non-union public service employees, ruling it violated First amendment rights.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision is another example of the dangerous direction that the administration and it’s handpicked judiciary is moving us in,” said Congresswoman Adams. The Janus decision is a crushing blow to the public service unions that give a voice to the millions of teachers, police officers and fire fighters, serving all across the nation. These hardworking men and women deserve all the resources to unionize for better wages and fair working conditions. In North Carolina, we rallied with our teachers in May as they fought for better pay. North Carolinians know how important these efforts are to our teachers, schools, and children. This is why today’s decision is so devastating for our state and for our nation. Congress must find a legislative fix that protects and strengthens the voices of our working men and women.”
