Adams Statement on FBI Director’s Testimony on Trump-Russia Investigation, False Wiretapping Claims
Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after FBI Director James Comey testified that there is ‘no evidence’ of President Trump’s claim to have been wiretapped by President Obama, and confirmed the existence of an FBI investigation into ties between Russia and Trump officials.
“Director Comey’s confirmation of a month’s long FBI investigation into Trump officials’ ties to Russia is further proof that an independent bipartisan commission must be established to bring about the full truth,” said Congresswoman Adams. “The possibility of a foreign government interfering in our elections is a threat to our security and our democracy.
“President Trump’s desperate attempts to distract from news of the FBI investigation into Russia’s influence in our democracy with false claims of wiretapping were thwarted by Director Comey’s testimony that there is ‘no evidence’ to support such claims. The President owes President Obama and the American people an apology for misleading them.
“There are still more questions than answers and the American people deserve the truth. What are this administration’s ties to Russia and why is the President so desperate to cover them up?”
