Congresswoman Adams Applauds the U.S. Supreme Court Decision to Uphold North Carolina Voting Rights
September 1, 2016
CHARLOTTE — Today Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court denied North Carolina’s request to implement voting restrictions recently struck down by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals:
“As a member of the Voting Rights Caucus, I applaud today’s Supreme Court decision. Their decision makes it clear: North Carolina’s voter restriction laws are unconstitutional. As elected officials we should be working for fair and equal access to the ballot, not against it. This case is another reminder of why Congress must take immediate action to restore the Voting Rights Act and we must recommit to doing all we can to protect our most sacred right to vote,” said Rep. Adams.
