Congresswoman Adams’ Statement On House Passage Of Short-Term CR To Fund The Government

September 30, 2015

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement after a measure she voted for to fund the government until December 11th, passed the U.S. House of Representatives:

"Today I voted for a short-term continuing resolution that funds our nation's government until December 11th. Although I'm disappointed there is no long-term budget, there was too much at stake to not support this measure. During the last government shutdown in 2013, the American economy lost $24 billion and $120,000 potential jobs; I could not risk that happening again.

"I was sent to Congress to legislate and that's what I will continue to do – but many of my colleagues don't have those same ideals. Instead, the dysfunction within the Republican Party continues to grow as extremists push wildly dangerous agendas – that lose sight of the core reason they were sent to Congress. In the coming months, Republicans have two choices: support a clean and reasonable long-term budget that funds our federal government or shutdown the government on the backs of hardworking Americans. For me, the choice is clear, shutting down our government is not an option and I will continue to speak out against the drastic impacts a shutdown would have on North Carolina's 12th District and our nation."
