Congresswoman Adams Statement On Supreme Court Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

June 26, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold same-sex marriage as a constitutional right:

"Every American deserves the right to marry who they love. The Supreme Court decision today upholds same-sex marriage as a constitutional right, and legalizes it across the United States. I am proud to stand with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community to celebrate the legalization of same-sex marriage.

"This decision is a major step in the fight for equality, for all people. No one deserves to be discriminated against; regardless of their sexual orientation, race, gender or socioeconomic status. The LGBT rights movement has persevered to make remarkable progress, but there is still more work to be done to ensure we are combating discrimination in the workplace; stopping bullying in our schools; ending inequities in health care and eradicating homelessness among LGBT youth. I will continue to fight for LGBT rights and will remain an advocate for equality."
