Congresswoman Alma Adams is Appalled by the Actions of the North Carolina General Assembly

December 15, 2016

Charlotte, NC—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement regarding the second special session of the North Carolina General Assembly called on December 14th.

"I am appalled by this pathetic power grab by our Republican led General Assembly" said Congresswoman Adams. "This special session was called under the guise of ensuring relief for victims of Hurricane Matthew and the wildfires in Western North Carolina and it has devolved into a dangerous game of partisan politics.

"At the eleventh hour, the Republican led General Assembly called a second special session yesterday to ram legislation through without consulting the public. These actions are deceptive and lack the transparency North Carolinians deserve.

"This is a last minute attempt to circumvent the will of the people by diminishing the power of Governor-Elect Roy Cooper. When Governor McCrory conceded the election, just last week, he promised a smooth transition to the next administration. This is anything but that. I urge Governor McCrory to reject this proposal and condemn these dishonest efforts by Republican leaders."
