Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today joined Congressional Black Caucus Chair (CBC) Rep. G. K. Butterfield, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and other members in a press conference to urge the Senate to immediately confirm Loretta Lynch for U.S. Attorney General. Last month, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams and Congressmen G. K. Butterfield and David Price sent a letter urging Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis to rethink their opposition to Loretta Lynch's nomination for U.S. Attorney General. Below are Congresswoman Adams' remarks as prepared for delivery:

"As I mentioned before, Loretta Lynch is from my hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina - so her confirmation is personal for me.

"Loretta Lynch has waited far too long for this Republican controlled Senate to do their jobs and confirm her. She has already been confirmed twice by the Senate in the past. For purely political reasons, Loretta Lynch has now waited longer than the last seven U.S. Attorney Generals combined.

"As an Attorney General for the Eastern District of New York, she fought complex crimes like public corruption, and terrorism; and proved to be just and fair.

"Loretta Lynch is well-qualified for the role of U.S. Attorney General. She deserves a vote and she deserves to be confirmed. The stalling must stop.

"Recently, myself, along with Reps. Butterfield and Price wrote to our Senators from North Carolina – Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis – urging them to support this North Carolina native, who is well-qualified to be the next U.S. Attorney General.

"This message is for them and the entire U.S. Senate. It's time to stand on the right side of history and confirm Loretta Lynch!"
