WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

“Today our community pays tribute to the memory of the late Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. by remembering his unshakable faith in a more just, equitable society.

In the words of Dr. King, “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” The Reverend Doctor King fought a lifelong battle in the Civil Rights Movement, a battle that took his life. Despite constant opposition, he never lost hope and continued to serve his people by fighting for their prosperity. His perseverance in sticking to his principles is a strength we should each strive for.

Dr. King once said that “life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” He asks a question that each of us must ask ourselves. This MLK day, we are invited to recommit to his ideals of inclusion, compassion, and service, in the hope that we can build a better tomorrow for ourselves and our brothers and sisters.”
