Rep. Adams Sworn in to Sixth Full Term in U.S. House of Representatives
Serving North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District since 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – On Friday, January 3rd, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) was sworn in for her sixth full term as a member of the United States House of Representatives. She released the following statement after her swearing-in.
“Friday, January 3rd, began the 119th session of the U.S. Congress. I was honored to be sworn-in for a sixth full term as your representative, to serve the people of North Carolina's 12th Congressional District.
Thank you for your ongoing support, the opportunity to serve and the trust you have placed in my leadership.
The congressional lines for North Carolina’s fourteen districts have all changed. The new twelfth district will include most of the city of Charlotte and will not cover the previous cities and towns in Mecklenburg county and county of Cabarrus.
I welcome the residents of the new twelfth district. I have enjoyed serving the residents in the previous twelfth district.
There will be challenges ahead during this Congress but please know that I will be working to protect healthcare and the Affordable Care Act, ensure that families don’t go hungry, protect and support education for our children, sustain Historically Black Colleges and Universities, make housing more affordable and protect and restore reproductive freedom.
I will continue to work with representatives on both sides of the aisle to make progress while prioritizing the needs of my district and constituents.”
Ms. Adams ran for Congress in a special election in 2014, becoming the 100th woman to join the 114th Congress. In the ten years since coming to Congress, her district has been reconfigured four times, and now encompasses a portion of Charlotte, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. In the 119th Congress, Rep. Adams will continue to serve on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Education and the Workforce.
