Adams Announces ‘No’ Vote During Narrow Passage of the 2018 Farm Bill

June 21, 2018

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12), a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, released the following statement on her NO vote for H.R. 2 the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 (the GOP farm bill).

"This week, House Republicans led a vicious and unprecedented attack on families and children in need," said Congresswoman Adams. "House Republicans turned their backs on our family values by enabling the Trump administration to rip children away from their families and by passing a cruel and hyper-partisan farm bill that guts SNAP and takes food off the tables of millions of families and children. This Republican-led Congress has hit a new low."

"I have voted against the mean-spirited GOP farm bill three times. Earlier this year, I joined hunger advocates from the 12th District in sending a letter to House leadership demanding that they protect and strengthen SNAP benefits. Not only were these concerns ignored, but the GOP farm bill makes massive cuts to snap benefits that over 1.6 million North Carolinians depend on."

"It's my hope that decency will prevail when this bill goes to conference."
