Adams & Walker Support Bipartisan Effort to Connect Local Students to Jobs

August 14, 2017

North Carolina—Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities Caucus co-chairs Congresswoman Alma Adams (D-NC) and Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) led a letter with Caucus vice-chair Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Republican Study Committee Chairman Congressman Mark Walker (R-NC) to Tim Ryan, U.S. Chairman and Senior Partner of PwC and chair of the steering committee for the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion (CEO Action), commending the group's commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the private sector. The letter also offered the Caucus' assistance in furthering their mission by promoting partnerships between member corporations and HBCUs.

"In Mecklenburg County, CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion member companies are leading the way in connecting HBCU students with good paying jobs and increased opportunity," saidCongresswoman Adams. "HBCUs graduate thousands of diverse and qualified students each year, making them a leader in efforts to build a talented and unified workforce. As co-chair of the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, I'm proud to continue working with these companies to be a resource in bringing increased public-private partnerships to our communities."

"It is incredibly encouraging to see businesses in North Carolina lead the way on this effort," said Congressman Walker. "Bridging the gap from the classroom to the corporate world for our exceptional HBCUs is critical to the success of our students, our state, and our future. That is why we made it a main topic during our discussions with HBCU Presidents and Chancellors at the Fly-In event in February. We look forward to remaining a key resource in building private-public partnerships that bring opportunity to HBCU students."
