Adams Announces $10.5 Million in Grants for CATS
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) to receive $10.5M in Section 5307 CARES Act funding
CHARLOTTE – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) on Wednesday announced a $10.5 Million grant for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) to maintain transit services as well as pay for administrative leave for transit personnel during the COVID-19 emergency. The grant is 100% federal funds with no local match required.
"The Coronavirus pandemic continues to threaten transit systems across the country," said Congresswoman Adams. "That is why I was proud to support the CARES Act, including critical funding in the legislation to make sure we are able to maintain bus and rail systems across the country. I am happy to announce that CATS has successfully applied for CARES Act funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Even though we continue to face the health and economic consequences of COVID-19, we must keep Charlotte-Mecklenburg Moving!"
"Transit service for front line employees has been and will remain a top priority," saidCATS CEO John Lewis. "These grant funds will play a critical role in maintaining essential operations."
