Johnson C. Smith University: Machine Learning and Innovation Hub

100 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216

The proposed JCSU Machine Learning & Innovation Hub will expand access to advanced ML technologies, create workforce‑aligned training pathways that produce AI‑literate graduates for high‑growth careers, and strengthen community and industry partnerships. The Hub will serve as a regional resource for students, high school learners, and local businesses seeking to participate in the emerging AI‑driven economy. 

This request is for $1,300,000.

 

Elon University: Precision Research Instruments Supporting Elon University and Queens University’s Merger in Charlotte, NC

100 Campus Drive, Elon, NC 27244

In September 2025, Elon University and Queens University of Charlotte announced an intention to merge the two schools, an effort Elon describes as “complementing contemporary strengths, shared values and a commitment to Charlotte.” The modern scientific instruments sought in this request will equip Queens to take full advantage of the institutional capacity and research infrastructure that Elon will bring to this partnership. Through its merger with Elon, Queens will be able to offer new resources and opportunities to its diverse student body while maintaining and strengthening its positive impacts on Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and North Carolina.  

This request is for $1,008,820.

 

R Bruce Irons Camp Fund DBA Wayfinders: Wayfinders Youth Mentorship Program 

809 Westmere Ave, C190, Charlotte, NC 28208

Wayfinders’ youth crisis mentorship program provides long-term, wraparound family support to under-resourced, at-risk students in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County (NC-12), helping address barriers related to housing stability, healthcare access, and other basic needs. 

This request is for $100,000.

 

Safe House Project: North Carolina Simply Report Statewide Rollout for Survivor Support, Law Enforcement Training, and Trafficking Identification

1340 N. Great Neck Road STE 1272-162, Virginia Beach, VA 23454 (with a local Charlotte, NC entity)

This project supports the statewide rollout of Safe House Project’s Simply Report, a secure web and mobile-based platform that enables people to report trafficking and route actionable information directly to appropriate agencies and survivor support partners. 

This request is for $600,000.

 

The C.W. Williams Community Health Center, Inc. (CWWCHC): Wilkinson Boulevard: Strengthening Our Foundation: Building, Grounds, Equipment, Workforce, and IT Improvement Project

3333 Wilkinson Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28208

This project will address critical infrastructure, technology, equipment & training needs at its 3333 Wilkinson Blvd. location. It reinforces CWWCHC’s capacity to deliver safe, comprehensive, cost-effective care, while leveraging critically important AI technology and preventive care models to advance clinical efficiency and generate measurable public cost savings.

This request is for $910,000.

 

The C.W. Williams Community Health Center, Inc. (CWWCHC): Old Pineville Rd: Strengthening Our Foundation: Building, Grounds, Equipment, Workforce, and IT Improvement Project

3333 Wilkinson Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28208

This project will address critical infrastructure needs at its 5880 Old Pineville Rd. location. It reinforces CWWCHC’s capacity to deliver safe, comprehensive, cost-effective care.

This request is for $15,000.

 

UNC Charlotte: Technology Improvements for Airfield Pavement

9201 University City Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28223

Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) is a critical economic engine for the region and one of the nation’s busiest aviation hubs. Improving the safety, reliability, and efficiency of its airfield infrastructure has direct implications for passenger travel, air cargo movement, and regional job creation. This project will allow the airport to make more informed operational decision-making, helping to reduce disruptions, lower long-term maintenance costs, and enhance overall airfield safety.

This request is for $3,000,000.

 

Charlotte Community Health Clinic: Community Mobile Health Expansion for Underserved Populations in Mecklenburg County 

800 Medical Plaza Drive, Suite 300, Charlotte, NC 28262

This funding will be used topurchaseand equip twomobilehealth units to expand access to primary care, dental services, and behavioral health in underserved communities. The project will increase access to preventive care, reduce barriers related to transportation and affordability, and improve continuity of care for populations that face significant challenges accessing traditional healthcare facilities.

This request is for $1,125,000.

 

City of Charlotte: West End Co-Op 

600 East 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

The West Boulevard and Trade Street corridors are federally designated food deserts. Residents have lacked access to a full-service grocery store for over 20 years, leading to significant health and economic disparities. This project corrects that harm. by advancing the joint development which will include the co-op space, housing rehabilitation, and community economic development benefit through the incubator space.

This request is for $1,500,000.

 

City of Charlotte: Old Point Comfort Homeownership

600 East 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

The development provides 38 affordable-for-sale townhomes for buyers earning up to 80% of AMI, prioritizing lower-wage workers, public-sector employees, and those at risk of displacement. Buyers can use the City of Charlotte’s and North Carolina’s Down Payment Assistance programs to purchase a home in the development. Located just off Beatties Ford Road, the community offers easy access to jobs, transit, parks, schools, and services. It supports inclusive growth by making homeownership accessible near major employment centers and amenities.

This request is for $2,200,000.

 

City of Charlotte: Faith in Housing Initiative – Affordable Housing Development Initiative

The Mayor’s Faith-Based Development Initiative supports economic development objectives by stabilizing neighborhoods, increasing workforce housing availability, and catalyzing additional private investment. This initiative represents a scalable and replicable public-private-faith partnership model that can serve as a national example for leveraging community-based assets to address the affordable housing crisis.

This request is for $1,500,000.

 

City of Charlotte: CFD Fire Apparatus – Station 46

600 East 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

This project involves the procurement of a new, state-of-the-art fire apparatus to anchor the operations of the upcoming Station 46 in Northwest Charlotte.  This facility is a critical infrastructure priority designed to eliminate a significant emergency response gap in one of the city’s fastest-growing corridors, including the surrounding Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). This area currently lacks a dedicated frontline apparatus, forcing reliance on distant municipal stations or local volunteer departments. As a result, response times frequently exceed the NFPA 1710 six-minute life-safety standard. This project is fundamentally needed to provide the specialized equipment necessary to bring this high-growth district into compliance with national safety benchmarks, ensuring that residential and commercial development is matched by adequate public safety infrastructure.

This request is for $1,300,000.

 

City of Charlotte: Skilled to Build Apprenticeships

This project will establish and expand high-quality, registered apprenticeship programs that prepare a diverse and skilled workforce for careers in transportation infrastructure. By aligning training with industry-recognized standards and employer needs, the project aims to strengthen the talent pipeline for critical transportation infrastructure occupations and address current and projected workforce shortages. 

This request is for $1,000,000.

 

City of Charlotte: Corridors Opportunity Hubs for Small Business and Workforce

This initiative is designed to expand registered apprenticeship opportunities by providing direct assistance to businesses in establishing and implementing registered apprenticeship occupations. The program will support employers through each stage of the apprenticeship process, including occupation selection, program registration, curriculum development, and ongoing program management. The program will also prioritize support for small businesses with limited access to, or awareness of, workforce development resources by assisting them with hiring, training, and retaining transportation infrastructure talent through employee training grants.

This request is for $1,200,000.

 

City of Charlotte: Spark Centro Workforce and Small Business Development Facility Renovation Project 

600 East 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

This project will support the renovation and rehabilitation of an existing commercial facility and convert the property into a publicly accessible economic development center that will host workforce training programs, small business development services, and community programming. It is needed to address economic and workforce challenges in the Albemarle Corridor of East Charlotte, an area experiencing rapid growth alongside persistent economic disparities. Many residents in the surrounding neighborhoods face barriers to higher-wage employment and access to entrepreneurship resources. Redeveloping this underutilized property will provide critical infrastructure for workforce training and small business support in a location that is accessible.

This request is for $1,500,000.

 

Mecklenburg County: Public Health Patient Accessibility and Health Education Improvements 

600 East 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

The County’s Public Health Patient Accessibility and Health Education Improvements Project will help realize the County’s health care priorities through the acquisition of critical medical equipment including powered exam tables, electronic mobile educational displays, and X-ray digitizers. 

This request is for $484,900.
