Adams Announces 12th District Congressional App Challenge Winner

December 8, 2017

Charlotte, N.C.—During National Computer Science Week, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) is excited to announce the winner of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) from North Carolina's 12th Congressional District, Vietfu Tang. Mr. Tang is a student at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte. His app, called Alacrity, is designed to help people prepare for natural disasters.

"STEM education is crucial to developing a workforce that is prepared for the jobs of the future" said Congresswoman Adams. "Computer science and tech are two of the fastest growing fields and this competition encourages creativity and innovation from students at a young age. I'm proud to have an exceptional student like Mr. Tang representing the 12th District. As Congress prepares to consider the Higher Education Act, we must ensure our commitment to STEM education and workforce development is unwavering."

"One of my teachers introduced me to the competition and I'm glad to participate. This is the second app competition I've competed in and throughout both I've enjoyed the app development process and I especially enjoyed being able to exercise my skills in problem solving and creative thinking to tackle a real world problem," said Vietfu Tang.

Tang is currently a member of the startup company Eclect, Inc. that helps develop solutions for local people and businesses. He intends to pursue a degree in computer science at a university next fall.
