Adams Announces Millions in Federal Funding for Airport Expansion

September 12, 2017

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) announces $1,700,530 in federal funding for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The grant, distributed through the Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will fund the first six phases of an 180,200 square yard expansion of the west terminal apron to provide additional space for aircraft parking.

"The continued success of Charlotte Douglas International Airport is key to the growth of our local economy," said Congresswoman Adams. "Mecklenburg County is one of the fastest growing regions in the nation. As we plan for our future, I'll keep fighting for increased investment in our transportation and infrastructure systems to enhance the quality of life for our citizens and to expand economic opportunity for local businesses."

"Charlotte Douglas International Airport is excited to learn that we have received federal grant funding for the west apron expansion. As a fast-growing airport, Charlotte Douglas International Airport appreciates receiving federal support for our capital infrastructure program. As part of the Airport's ‘Destination CLT' Capital Improvement Program, the west ramp expansion is vital to our ability to meet growing passenger demand for air service," said Charlotte Douglas International Airport Aviation Director Brent Cagle.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the sixth busiest airport in North America for operations, serving more than 120,000 passengers each day.
