Adams Applauds 100 Unit Affordable Housing Announcement by YWCA Central Carolinas

February 20, 2020

Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (D-NC) released the following statement applauding the YWCA Central Carolinas' commitment to build 100 affordable housing units on Park Road, with a focus on families earning between 30 and 60 percent of area median income (AMI):

"Shelter is a basic human need, and housing is a fundamental human right. It should be a Constitutional right," said Congresswoman Alma Adams. "I am proud of the YWCA's commitment to affordable housing that serves all income levels, especially in the critical 30% AMI bracket. I hope that the Queen City will continue to step up to serve our housing insecure neighbors."

Adams recently joined Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters as a co-sponsor of the Housing is Infrastructure Act, which would invest $107 billion in affordable housing. Earlier today, Congresswoman Adams participated in a "Building the Dream" forum on the housing crisis hosted by The Hill, and attended the YWCA's We Believe luncheon where the announcement was made. Ensuring more affordable housing construction is one of Congresswoman Adams' key legislative priorities in the 116th Congress.
