Adams Calls on Leadership to Support FUTURE Act

November 13, 2019
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D., (NC-12) released the following statement after she was joined by leaders of the Congressional Tri-Caucus, urging House leadership to include the FUTURE Act in the upcoming government funding package:
"On September 30th, the Senate failed in its duty to provide for the futures of America's college students. Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) produce some of our nation's best and brightest yet, due to the Senate's inaction on the FUTURE Act, the needs of such institutions have failed to be adequately addressed," said Congresswoman AlmaAdams. "Once again, I call upon House leadership for its continued support in advancing the FUTURE Act, a bill that will drive our nation's low -income, first generation students of color into emerging STEM fields.
In 1848, Horace Mann stated "education, then, beyond all other divides of human origin, is a great equalizer of conditions of men". It's time for Congress to do its part to level the playing field and give all students equal access to the promise of a college degree."
