Adams Calls for Removal of Confederate Monuments in NC & at the U.S. Capitol
Charlotte, N.C.—Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement urging the removal of confederate monuments from locations across North Carolina and at the U.S. Capitol.
"We are at a perilous crossroads, and I'm afraid that we are headed down a dangerous path steeped in violence, hatred, and irreparable division," said Congresswoman Adams. "Charlottesville is a reminder that these monuments are vestiges of a painful past that commemorate a dark era in our nation's history. The fathers of the confederacy waged war against their own country and they fought and died in a rebellion who's central aim was to protect and defend the enslavement of human beings. That is not a legacy that we should champion or honor. I am left speechless by our President's refusal to accept this reality. These statues should come down and instead of defending them we should put our energies and efforts toward fighting inequity and healing our nation."
