Charlotte, N.C.—On National Manufacturing Day, Rep. Adams made her fifth stop on the #MadeInMecklenburg Tour with a visit to groninger USA, LLC in Charlotte. The visit included a tour of the facility and an opportunity to learn about groninger USA’s dual manufacturing apprenticeship program started in 2014 to address the skills gap challenging many local manufacturers. groninger is known for manufacturing closing and liquid filling equipment for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

“I’m proud to join local manufacturer groninger USA in celebrating National Manufacturing Day, said Congresswoman Adams. “As an industry leader, groninger USA is closing the skills gap and providing debt free pathways to opportunity with the creation of their dual apprenticeship program. I look forward to our continued partnership to expand advanced manufacturing in North Carolina and bring better jobs and wages to our community.”

During the visit, Congresswoman Adams had the opportunity to meet the incredible people behind groninger USA’s success.

“The Manufacturing Industry is vital for any society. It is important for the communities in the US to be aware of the opportunities becoming available in the changing environment in Advanced Manufacturing,” said Lothar Burger, Managing Director of groninger USA. “Nowadays, with the technological evolution that has taken place in the industry there is a demand for a different set of skills. Apprenticeship programs are both an important resource for companies to guarantee reliable labor as well as a stable starting point for a debt free career path for local citizens”.

Groninger USA’s unique dual apprenticeship program is providing pathways to advanced manufacturing jobs debt free.

“I actually got accepted to The University of South Carolina for electrical engineering, but I choose the apprenticeship because I saw an opportunity to learn more than what is just in the books and get some real experience, plus the free college is always nice too,” said William Jaeger, second year apprentice, Mechatronics.

The parent company, groninger & co. gmbh of Crailsheim, Germany, was founded in 1980 by Horst Groninger. Now, groninger USA LLC is an industry leader, employing over 1,000 people worldwide.

North Carolina is 5th in the nation for manufacturing, producing 4.6% of our country’s total manufacturing contribution. In addition, North Carolina leads the Southeast in manufacturing, employing 460,000 manufacturing workers in the state.
