Adams Celebrates Nomination of Michael Regan to Lead EPA

December 17, 2020

Michael Regan is a well-qualified, historic pick.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) released the following statement celebrating President-elect Joe Biden's selection of Michael Regan to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

"I am overjoyed that President-elect Biden has selected North Carolina's own Michael Regan to lead the Environmental Protection Agency," said Congresswoman Adams. "Michael Regan is a well-qualified, historic pick. In Washington, he helped both Democrats and Republicans address air quality issues. Here in the Tar Heel State, Michael was a leader on environmental justice issues, including the historic coal ash settlement with Duke Energy. Finally, we cannot address environmental justice without addressing environmental racism, so I am glad to have an HBCU graduate working to undo the damage of the Trump Administration."

Michael S. Regan currently serves as North Carolina's top environmental regulator as the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality. Regan has a bachelor's degree in Earth and Environmental Science from N.C. Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) and a master's degree in Public Administration from George Washington University.

Congresswoman Alma Adams represents North Carolina's 12th Congressional District (Charlotte) and serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Agriculture. Additionally, she serves on the House Financial Services Committee and the House Education & Labor Committee, where she serves as Chair of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee.
