Adams Opposes Security Minibus

July 27, 2017

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after the U.S. House passed the so-called Make America Secure Act.

"Today's appropriations package wastes billions on a useless border wall, triggering cuts to domestic programs across-the-board," said Congresswoman Adams. "To make matters worse, it slashes funding for advanced energy research and renewable energy, contains poisonous riders hindering efforts to keep our water clean, and strips a bipartisan amendment forcing Congress to do its job and debate the legal basis for ongoing military conflicts. I'm pleased that my amendment to increase funding to the Department of Defense HBCU/MI program by $40 million was adopted, however, due to the impact these cuts will have in Mecklenburg County, I could not support the final version of this bill."
