Adams Releases Pride Month Video

"I stand with you and I promise to continue to fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community"
CHARLOTTE - Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released a video celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month, which is celebrated nationwide during the month of June.
"I stand with you and I promise to continue to fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community," says Congresswoman Adams in the video. "I am working hard as your ally in Congress, co-sponsoring legislation like the Equality Act, which will ensure equal protection under the law for all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression."
The video is available on Facebook here, and for download here.

I'm Congresswoman Alma Adams, and I represent North Carolina's 12th District in the United States House of Representatives, and my pronouns are she, her and hers.
June is Pride Month nationwide, and it takes place at an important moment for equality of all people and all races.
As this spring of protests continues, it's important to remember that, as the saying goes, the first Pride was a riot.
Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall uprising of 1969 in Manhattan, an event that led to the gay rights movement and ultimately major victories for LGBTQ equality. Queer people of color were at the center of the uprising, which, like the protests of the past few weeks, was in large part due to police brutality and overreach by law enforcement.
Similarly, I want to recognize the hard work of the queer people of color who were at the center of the civil rights movements, and who are leading movements for police reform as we speak.
We can't sleep on fairness and equal rights!
I am working hard as your ally in Congress, co-sponsoring legislation like the Equality Act, which will ensure equal protection under the law for all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression.
I stand with you and I promise to continue to fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community.
Finally, I'm recording this video on the 4th anniversary of the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub. We must continue to honor the victims with action. One of my proudest moments as your Congresswoman was to be part of the sit-in protesting inaction on gun violence in the wake of the Pulse massacre, and I will continue to work with Speaker Pelosi to send meaningful gun legislation to the Senate.
Again, I wish you happy pride!
Now, go forth and continue the fight,
Because we can't wait for equality –
We have to win it.
