Adams Releases Statement on Manchin Decision to Oppose Build Back Better Act

December 20, 2021

“We can’t let the Grinch steal Christmas."

CHARLOTTE – Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement on Senator Joe Manchin's decision to oppose the Build Back Better Act, which includes an extension of the enhanced Child Tax Credit tax cut. In 2021, the Child Tax Credit (CTC) cut taxes by over $250 million for over 100,000 families in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District. The enhanced CTC is scheduled to expire on December 31st. More information on the CTC is available here.

"The legislative process is messy and often disappointing, but the worst thing we can do is lose our will to work for the American people," said Congresswoman Adams. "We can't let the Grinch steal Christmas. The House of Representatives should return to Washington to pass a ‘clean' extension of the enhanced Child Tax Credit tax cut that is set to expire at the end of the month, and the Senate should return to take up this legislation before the end of the year. Over 100,000 families in my district, as well as millions of families across the country, are counting on us to act. If Republicans truly oppose the Child Tax Credit tax cut, let's put them on record against tax relief and show American families who they really are."
