October 5, 2023

Washington, D.C. (October 5, 2023) In the wake of the recent shooting at Morgan State University, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12),founder and co-chair of the Congressional Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Caucus, released the following statement:

“As a two-time HBCU Alum, I am personally impacted by news of any tragic occurrences happening on our campuses. This past Tuesday, five students at Morgan State University were injured in a shooting following the coronation of Ms. and Mr. Morgan State University. I remain thankful that none of the students were killed, but this devastating instance is yet another reminder that the gun violence facing our country is of dire concern, and one that must be addressed. I stand in solidarity with Morgan State University’s President, Dr. David Wilson, and the Morgan State University family, sending prayers to those affected by this senseless act. Our institutions are special places where students should feel safe and supported, and we will not let this moment deter Morgan State University or any other HBCU from its mission to provide a world class education for our students. I remain committed to supporting legislation to address the gun violence facing our country and working with my colleagues to address this critically important issue.”
