Adams Statement on 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 22, 2023) - Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) on the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade:
“Today is the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, but it’s the first year since the federal right to privacy and bodily autonomy was overturned by the Supreme Court in the Dobbs decision.
“Some Republican Members of Congress have used this unpopular and unprecedented decision to propose a national abortion ban, which would block millions of women from making their own decisions over their own bodies. In North Carolina and across the country, anti-choice bills have been proposed at the state level as well, including proposals restricting access to contraception and threatening women and their doctors with felony charges for accessing care.
“I join President Biden, Vice President Harris, and my Democratic Colleagues in Congress in stating that the fundamental right to reproductive health care, including abortion care, is non-negotiable, and I will continue to work in Congress to make sure the freedoms and protections promised by Roe v. Wade become federal law.”
