Adams Statement on the Advancement of The College Affordability Act

November 1, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12), released the following statement on the advancement of the College Affordability Act:

"As an educator for over 40 years, I have always believed in the importance of a quality education. I was proud to join my colleagues on the Committee on Education and Labor in advancing the College Affordability Act (H.R. 4674) to the House floor", said Congresswoman Alma Adams. "The College Affordability Act would lower the cost of college for low- and middle-income students, crack down on predatory for-profit colleges, and improve graduation rates through stronger student support services.

As Dr. W.E.B. DuBois once said, ‘Of all the civil rights for which the world has struggled and fought for 500 years, the right to learn is undoubtedly the most fundamental.' Every American who wishes to pursue higher education should have a clear, affordable path to do so and the College Affordability Act will ensure that the promise of a postsecondary degree is not out of reach for any child."
