"G. K. has been a friend, mentor, and a tireless representative for our state"

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. released the following statement celebrating the career of her friend and former Congressional Black Caucus chair, Rep. G. K. Butterfield (NC-01).

"G. K. has been a friend, mentor, and a tireless representative for our state," said Congresswoman Alma Adams."As a civil rights lawyer, judge, and former member of the North Carolina Supreme Court, G. K. advanced the cause of voting rights in our state. In Congress, he helped write the transformative Affordable Care Act as a member of the Energy & Commerce Committee, and he has always been a staunch supporter of the rights of women, LGBTQ Americans, and minority groups. As a proud NC Central University Eagle, both as an undergraduate and as a Legal Eagle, G. K. has always supported our work to support and invest in Historically Black Colleges and Universities."

"With this retirement, the Tar Heel State delegation has two big pairs of shoes to fill. I wish G. K. the best in his retirement, and thank him for his decades of service to North Carolina," Adams concluded.
