Adams Statement on Fauci Retirement

August 22, 2022

CHARLOTTE (August 22, 2022) – Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released a statement on the retirement of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President:

“I want to personally thank Dr. Anthony Fauci for his exemplary service to our country over the past 54 years,” said Congresswoman Adams. “From the global HIV/AIDS pandemic to the battle against COVID-19, Dr. Fauci has made countless contributions to public health, and his work has undoubtedly saved lives. Since taking the helm at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases almost 40 years ago, he has been a steadfast scientist, even in the face of intense and unfair criticism. As his lifesaving work was politicized during the discovery and outbreak of the novel coronavirus crisis, he focused on his mission: the health and well-being of the American people.

“Anthony Fauci demonstrated his personal and scientific integrity under both Republican and Democratic administrations, and the United States is better for it.”

This morning, Fauci announced he intends to step down from government service in December.
