Adams Statement on House Republicans’ Farm Bill Proposal

April 12, 2018

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12), member of the House Committee on Agriculture, released the following statement in response to Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway's release of partisan legislation to reauthorize the farm bill.

"This partisan legislation makes heartless changes to SNAP that will take food off the tables of thousands of veterans, seniors, children and other vulnerable populations in the 12th District. This bill imposes stricter work requirements and shifts vital funding away from the hungry; transforming it into a work program instead of a feeding program as intended. I will not support this," said Congresswoman Adams. "Republicans are shamefully attempting to pay for their 1.6 trillion dollar tax plan by making deep cuts to domestic programs such as SNAP. The American people can no longer afford to pay the price for their reckless governing."
