Adams’ Statement on the Passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act
Washington, DC — Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) issued the following statement after voting for the Paycheck Fairness Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 242-187.
"For three decades I have fought to close the gender wage gap, from the North Carolina House to the United States Congress. For three decades, I have been feeling like Fannie Lou Hammer – sick and tired of being sick and tired of paycheck inequity. That's why I was very proud to take action and vote for the Paycheck Fairness Act."
"This bill modernizes and strengthens the 1963 Equal Pay Act. It closes loopholes to secure equality for working women, including the women in the 12th District who still only make about 82 cents for every dollar a man makes."
"Passing the Paycheck Fairness Act is a landmark step in the fight to finally put an end to gender-based wage disparity."
