Adams Statement on Rep. Nunes Recusal from Russia Investigation

April 6, 2017

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after Congressman Devin Nunes, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, temporarily recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 elections.

"We owe the American people answers. Russia may have meddled in the 2016 election and it is up to Congress to learn the extent of their interference," said Congresswoman Adams. "Congressman Nunes proved himself unfit to lead this investigation when he broke protocol to visit the White House for a secret meeting, compromising his credibility and violating the trust of the American people.

"To rebuild trust and credibility, we must support a nonpartisan independent commission to investigate Russian ties to this administration and our democracy. Any involvement by a foreign entity in our elections is a threat to our democracy and cannot be tolerated."
