Adams Statement on the Senate’s Decision to Employ the Nuclear Option
April 6, 2017
Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after the Senate voted to end the 60 vote threshold required to confirm a Supreme Court justice.
"Today's decision to circumvent long standing traditions and rules is a grave miscarriage of Justice," said Congresswoman Adams. "Prior to today's vote, all Supreme Court justices were confirmed with a 60 vote threshold. Our constitution states that the President should seek advice and consent from the Senate when nominating a Supreme Court justice; this nominee did not meet the standard for confirmation therefore the President should confer with the Senate and nominate a new candidate."
