Congresswoman Adams Announces Winners Of The NC 12th District Congressional Art Competition
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a former art professor at Bennett College and member of the Congressional Arts Caucus today announced the winners of her 2015 Congressional art competition. Congresswoman Adams held an exhibit and competition at the African American Atelier gallery. During the reception, 38 pieces of art submitted by high school students in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District were displayed and judged by three local artists. A "Kids Choice" award was chosen by elementary school students who participate in an arts program at the African American Atelier gallery. All participating students received a Congressional certificate.
"As an artist and former art professor, art has been a huge part of my life," said Congresswoman Adams. "Art serves as an outlet for many youth and allows individuals to freely express themselves. The students in North Carolina's 12th Congressional District are tremendously talented and I am proud of the 38 students who submitted their artwork for the competition. I look forward to hosting Caroline Li in D.C. and seeing her artwork exhibited in the U.S. Capitol."
The first place winner won tickets to D.C. for the nationwide Congressional art competition reception. Their art, along with other high school students across the country, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The second and third place entries will be on display for one year in Congresswoman Adams' D.C. office and two entries that received honorable mentions will be displayed in her district offices.
The U.S. House of Representatives hosts a Congressional art competition each year as an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the country. Each Representative holds a competition in their District and selects winning entries.
