Congresswoman Adams Discusses STEM Academics and Careers at UNC Charlotte

August 30, 2016

CHARLOTTE — Yesterday, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) visited the campus of University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she toured the university’s career center facilities to learn more about its STEM workforce development training programs.

Upon her visit, Congresswoman Adams also met with Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, other faculty members and students where she discussed the need for more legislation to support STEM education skills and training programs like those being offered at UNC Charlotte. Rep. Adams during her month long Made in the 12th District Tour has been reviewing the impact of career training and job placement programs at all education levels as the STEM economy continues to grow and the skills gap widens for employers and employees.

“Hearing from both students and faculty about the great education being offered at UNC Charlotte reaffirms the need for more legislation like the STEM Prep Act which I introduced that provides funding for career and technical education training programs within the STEM field. Our graduates and job seekers alike must be armed with in-demand skills for today’s competitive workforce. In Congress, I will continue to support legislation that moves to close the technical skills gap so that hard-working Americans are provided greater opportunities and pathways to success,” said Congresswoman Adams.
