Congresswoman Adams Promotes the 2016 Congressional App Challenge at T. Wingate Andrews High School

August 30, 2016

HIGH POINT — Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) was excited to share that the 12th District of North Carolina is participating in this year’s Congressional App Challenge at T. Wingate Andrews High School in High Point, NC.

Congresswoman Adams is visiting area high schools in the 12th District to promote the Congressional App Challenge and to encourage students of all tech skill levels to participate. The Challenge is an app competition for U.S. high school students, focused on STEM and computer-based skills, which are essential for growth and innovation in today’s 21st Century economy.

With the current technical skills gap faced across the U.S., some experts predict that the country may face a shortage in programmers by as many as a million, come the year 2020. Careers in tech and STEM offer high-paying and in-demand jobs. And in order for America to remain competitive in today’s global economy, the country must invest in its youth.

“The Congressional App Challenge is a great opportunity for students in the 12th District and across the nation to take their affinity for technology and turn it into a pathway for a successful career in the STEM field. The Congressional App Challenge allows students a chance to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the real world, while developing a competitive edge for today’s job market. I’m excited to see what the students develop,” said Rep. Adams.
