Congresswoman Adams Releases Statement on the Reauthorization of the Career and Technical Education Act

July 7, 2016

Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) announced the reauthorization of the Career and Technical Education Act (CTE) by the House Education and the Workforce Committee through markup of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.

I am glad that my colleagues and I on the House Education and the Workforce Committee were able to work together to pass the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act out of committee and clear the way for reauthorizing this important legislation.

Reauthorizing the Career and Technical Education Act is an important step in modernizing jobs training and addressing the persistent skills gap that exists between job seekers and employers. This legislation will provide pathways to success and greater opportunities for so many hard working Americans.

Too often I hear from constituents looking for work and employers who need employees. Reauthorizing this legislation will allow us to close that gap and get people back to work. Reauthorizing CTE ensures that all American's have equal access to good paying jobs and that America's workforce remains one of the most productive and skilled in this global economy.

Today's vote comes on the heels of the Every Student Succeeds Act, which proves yet again that when it comes to our children, our jobs and our economy, Congress can work in a bipartisan fashion to level the playing field and make the American dream a reality for all.

It is my sincerest hope that House leadership acts swiftly and brings this bipartisan bill to the House floor for a vote."
