Congresswoman Adams’ Statement Following Republican Attacks on Women’s Healthcare

January 30, 2017

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement after today's vote on H.R. 7 "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act".

"Today, I voted against H.R. 7 because a women's right to choose should not be dependent upon her location, income, or insurance," said Congresswoman Adams. "Just two days after the 44th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, House Republicans are attacking healthcare again.

"This bill will prohibit federal funds from being used for health insurance that covers abortions, meaning many women and families would lose access to their affordable health insurance through the Affordable Care Act if this bill becomes law.

"A woman who seeks an abortion but can't have one because she can't afford it is more likely to fall on even harder times if she becomes a parent, deepening the cycle of poverty. I will continue to fight against any effort that infringes upon a women's right to choose."
