Congresswoman Adams Statement On House Passage Of Short-Term Extension Of Highway Transportation Funding

July 15, 2015

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement after voting for H.R. 3038, a short-term extension of highway transportation funding:

"Investments in transportation and infrastructure are critical to ensuring our roads, bridges and transit systems are in good working condition and equipped with the newest technologies to ensure our safety. I am disappointed that my Republican colleagues failed yet again to put forth a long-term funding solution. For the second time this year, House Republicans have shortchanged the American people and our economy by putting forth a short-term extension.

"In North Carolina's 12th Congressional District, there are more than 734 deficient bridges; and there are five major ongoing transportation projects, worth more than $147 million. Without continued funding, these projects and the jobs they create would be at risk. While I prefer a long-term measure, I voted for today's short-term extension because it ensures continued funding for these vital projects. I remain hopeful that in the coming months, we can come together to produce a long-term bill that provides funding certainty for transportation and infrastructure projects throughout this nation."
