July 20, 2015

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement on the passing of Dr. George Cooper, the Executive Director for the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs):

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. George Cooper, a trailblazer whose career exemplified his commitment to public service. Dr. Cooper worked to enhance opportunities for those who need them the most. From serving at several institutions of higher learning; ensuring HBCUs had access to USDA's academic resources; to leading the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, his legacy as a leader for HBCUs and minority-serving institutions will live on for generations. My prayers will remain with the family and friends of Dr. Cooper during this trying time."
