Congresswoman Adams’ Statement on Start of Open Enrollment

November 1, 2018

Charlotte, NC ---Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement on the first day of open enrollment for the 2019 Affordable Care Act marketplaces, which runs from November 1 through December 15 for 39 states including North Carolina.

"Health care is a basic human right that every American deserves. However, for the past two years, the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans have attempted to sabotage and undermine the Affordable Care Act. Today, begins the first day of open enrollment for 2019 health insurance coverage through healthcare.gov. In North Carolina, more than 552,000 people have gained quality, affordable health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. With the start of open enrollment, families and individuals can get covered for 2019 from now through December 15th, 2018," said Congresswoman Adams. "The Marketplace is a way for people to enroll for health coverage that meets their needs. Last year, eight in ten people in the marketplaces qualified for assistance paying their premiums, with most paying between $50 and $100 per month. This year many can even find a health plan with a monthly premium of $0. The fight for continual affordable healthcare does not stop. In Congress, I'll keep fighting for lower premiums and increased access to care."
