Congresswoman Alma Adams Responds to the Enactment of North Carolina’s Voter ID Laws

December 19, 2018

Washington, D.C- Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement on the enactment of North Carolina Voter ID laws that were passed today by the North Carolina General Assembly.

"I am disappointed in the General Assembly's decision to enact Voter ID laws. This is yet another example of North Carolina Republicans suppressing the vote in order to achieve a partisan advantage," said Congresswoman Adams. "This new law will disproportionately impact people of color, students, the elderly, and low-income voters. Instead of focusing on Voter ID requirements, which are proven to be unnecessary, North Carolina Republicans need to stand up and protect the integrity of our elections by ending the kinds of practices we saw in the Ninth District. I want the public to rest assured that Democrats in the new Congress will promote real solutions that protect access to the ballots and strengthen our voting rights."
