Congresswoman Alma Adams Statement On The 50th Anniversary Of ESEA
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12), a member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce released the following statement today on the 50th anniversary of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA):
"Every child deserves access to a quality education. On the 50th anniversary of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, I am reminded of how ESEA changed the education landscape for so many in this country. This year is particularly important because we in Congress, have an opportunity to reauthorize this critical piece of legislation. Although there have been several attacks on vital resources and funding for our students, I plan to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we can reauthorize an even stronger ESEA that upholds the original law's key principles of equal access to education for all.
"The reauthorized law should also make sure our schools and teachers have the resources they need; and that every student gets the education they deserve. As a former professor and member of the Education and the Workforce Committee, I will remain a champion for our students and will make sure our neediest students are not left out of this important conversation."
