Congresswoman Alma Adams Urges Signups for Affordable Internet Subsidy before February 7th Deadline
Infrastructure Investment Connecting Millions to the Internet Set to Expire in April

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) is urging her constituents who have not already done so and are eligible for a reduced rate from their internet providers to immediately sign up for the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) before the February 7, 2024 deadline.
“Connecting to the Internet isn’t optional anymore” said Rep. Adams. “Students need the Internet to do their homework and parents need it to work. Even the elderly use it to connect with their families and social networks.”
The ACP was passed as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, which Rep. Adams supported. The program is an FCC benefit program that connects eligible low-income households with broadband internet service at a discount of up to $30 per month, and up to $75 per month on Tribal lands.
Nearly one million North Carolina households rely on the program for internet access, including nearly 57,000 in CD-12. The registration deadline is February 7. The program will end in April unless renewed by the Congress, a move which Rep. Adams supports.
“This is an economic as well as moral imperative. Keeping affordable internet access in place helps more Americans contribute to the workforce, talk to their doctors, and connect with friends and family,” said Rep. Adams. “This is not a partisan issue; we need to keep North Carolina online. Don’t pull the plug.”
